Master Grade RX78-GP02A Physalis model kit

August 23, 2008

In March this year, i bought a gundam model kit i longed for years ago. MG Physalis, from the Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories series.

In the series, this is a prototype gundam, stolen by an elite pilot from Zeon, Anavel Gato and used it against the Earth Federation, its original ‘owner’. It’s codenamed GP-02A “Physalis”. GP-01 “Zehyranthes”, its brother unit is piloted by Kou Uraki in his pursuit to stop Gato.

I prefer the Coating Version, which is an Gundam 20th anniversary limited edition. It’s not quite limited, because i can still get it after its production almost 8 years. Currently, the product is discontinued.

What’s so special about the coating version compared to ordinary version? Let’s see…

The coating version is actually similar to ordinary version but with specially paint finish. As a result the mobile suit looks as if it has a metallic body.

Sarikei new version

August 20, 2008

It’s one week holiday here in UNIMAS and i took this opportunity to travel back to Sarikei. It’s an usual trip: 6 hours of bus ride, sleep, cold, watch the scenery passing by and listening to music (although my phone is not a music-oriented phone; but can store up to 4GB’s worth of music)

Sarikei has changed tremendously since i left for UNIMAS more than three years ago. New buildings has been raised and some landmarks in Sarikei has been painted in new colors. Old buildings (and resident houses) has been replaced with new and ugly generic shoplots. I’m quite upset with this new development because the old building carries the identity of Sarikei. They are built by Chinese who settled here more than half century ago.

Before, we used to have nice row houses along Jalan Central – It’s interesting to see that the housebuilders get creative with their designs in old age. Meanwhile, a new bridge has been built at Nyelong River, which will render the existing ferry service useless. The bridge is nowhere as interesting as the ferry, where the car will just speed forward to cross the river – No more enjoying the riverside scenery. The market near the town square has been relocated, desaturating the number of people in central area during weekends. The old place has been converted into a empty landscape – with built-in fountains but rarely used.

One thing i realize in Sarikei is the wharf area, particularly the concord-like vessel terminal. The place has been rotting and hasn’t been given care and maintenance. The bridge connecting the floating pier has been rusting and it might fail and people will fall into the river. The pier itself is dirty, disoriented and not quite aligned with the water level. The terminal building is dirty and the paint has been shadowed by fungi. I hope the authority looks into this matter, and not just paying attention to the “NEW PROJECTS” under Barisan Nasional. Something also needs to be done to preserve the vessel service although it is not profitable anymore, because it’s used to be popular to travel with these boat. Hope it won’t extinct.

There’s lots more changes here, and it’s quite sad seeing Sarikei being eaten by the so-called developments. I foresee that in the future, no one can recognize Sarikei anymore just from looking because the new structures are pretty generic and not unique. Perhaps in the future we can, by looking at roadsigns.

Malaysian Olympics Broadcast

August 17, 2008

Olympics have started on 08/08/08, where 8 for chinese, relates to luck and prosperity. I eagerly waited to watch the opening ceremony, but heck, there’s only one TV station airing it, and it’s RTM 1. That’s when they starts to annoy me.

  1. The opening ceremony is scheduled to start at 8pm, Malaysian time, , but the live broadcast does not start until 8.30pm to give way to the daily news. The government has decided that the Prime Minister is more important than the Olympics, so all local TV’s have to show his face at 8pm. Later at 8.30 pm, the broadcast started, and the performances have already halfway.During the broadcast, i have more and more complaints. The commentator, which is a local commentator rather than foreign one, is very noisy and constantly speak garbage. In one instant, he mentioned one of the musical instruments as ‘alat muzik bertali’ (stringed musical instruments). How can he be a commentator when he does not have knowledge about the performance? As a side note, i noticed that commentator skipped mentioning Israel.
  2. There are two channels broadcasting live events, but they are also far from satisfactory. The live event mostly focused on Malaysia athletes, while for events that have no Malaysia athletes in, it would be quite impossible to get the broadcast, not to say about being mentioned in news.In the first day, RTM1 broadcasted the women’s volleyball, where that time the game is already in second set. The show lasted for only few minutes before RTM switched to other sports, the fencing. With all these switching here and there, we cannot watch a full length of any game. What a waste.
  3. Delayed telecast is done by RTM during the night. However, what annoys me is that they still put the tag ‘LIVE’ at the right hand corner, some unsuspecting might think that is is actually a live telecast…

Anyone else watching from RTM 1?
